2 Chainz Charged With Felony Drug Possession

Ten months after 2 Chainz was arrested in Los Angeles, the rapper was formally charged for felony drug possession.

In a felony complaint provided to Rolling Stone by the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office, the rapper will be charged with possession of a controlled substance for unlawfully carrying codeine, a primary ingredient in the recreational drug sizzurp. The rapper, who faces up to three years in prison if convicted, is set to be arraigned on Tuesday, April 8th in Los Angeles.

At the time of his arrest, 2 Chainz was reportedly arrested for possession of marijuana and promethazine, but it is unclear as of press time if more charges will be added to the codeine possession.

A representative for 2 Chainz declined to comment on the case.

Last year, 2 Chainz told Rolling Stone he was getting frustrated with local cops targeting him on tour. "I'm not happy about it," said the Atlanta MC. "I don't want to go to jail." Last August, 2 Chainz and 10 associates were charged with obstructing a police officer after they spent nine hours refusing to let Oklahoma City cops onto his tour bus without a warrant. (It was later reported that the police claim to have found weapons and drugs on the bus.) "It's something that, essentially, a public defender could beat," said the rapper. "I could actually take myself to trial for a lot of this shit. I don't want to waste the taxpayers' money on this. Because, guess what? I pay a fucking lot of taxes!"

The rapper just finished his 2 Good to Be T.R.U. tour with Pusha T and has festival dates scheduled at Columbia, MD's Sweetlife Festival on May 10th, Rhymesayers' Soundset Festival in Shakopee, Minn. on May 25th and Denver's Westword Music Showcase on June 21st.
