Angry Mobs Set Alleged Murderer Ablaze In Ebonyi State


AN angry mob, weekend, burnt to death an alleged murderer, Emmanuel Nwegwe, 40, who allegedly killed his relative, Innocent Onu, 54, with a gun at Umunaga village in Uburu community of Ohaozara Local government area of Ebonyi state over a disagreement relating to a wedding reception venue.
It was gathered that when the deceased, Emmanuel Nwegwe who had shothis relative last week in their family compound and ran into a nearbyforest in the area for safety; was allegedly apprehended, killed andset ablaze by some angry youths who mounted close watch on him barely 8 days after the incident.
The Ebonyi state police Public RelationsOfficer, PPRO, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, DSP, Sylvester Igbowho condemned the manner in which the deceased was allegedly killed bythe youths of the area, stressed that they had no right to takelawsinto their hands since the case was still under investigation by thepolice.
He said: “The youths went into the bush and discover the man where hewas hiding; they brought the man out, killed him and set his corpse onfire. Before information got to the police that the man had been seen,they have already killed him and police cannot lay hands on any personbut they still investigating to know who and who actually killed theman.
“They people are not permitted by law to take laws into their handseven though the deceased had used gun to kill his brother and sincethe case was reported to the police which is subject to investigation,what they should have done as at the time they saw the man was toapprehend him and take him to the police station; there is no law thatpermits them to kill the man.“The team that are investigating the matter had gone to make sure thatthose that carried out the action against the alleged murderer arearrested and prosecuted according to the law; we are yet to confirmthe number of youths that carried out the dastardly act; when thepolice rushed to the scene what they saw was the corpse of the man onfire and there was nobody they could lay hands on as being responsiblefor the act.
According to the police spokesman, investigations were on to ascertainand arrest all those who participated in the killing of late EmmanuelNwegwe on that fateful day.“However, the police is still investigating to get information throughthe grapevine source; to know who and who were instrumental to theman’s death; we are right to say that youths in area carried out theact because after the alleged action of the deceased against hisrelative, the youth had mounted a manhunt for him.  
Police is working round the clock to make sure that those that killed the man are brought to book. He was burnt to death on Saturday morning”.
