Messi delays birthday party for Super Eagles

Barcelona of Spain and Argentina talisman, Lionel Andres Messi Cuccitini, better known as Lionel Messi, turned 27 yesterday, the eve of today’s last Group F game between Argentina and Nigeria at the ongoing World Cup in Brazil.

Messi celebrated his birthday in low key, so as to concentrate on today’s game against the Super Eagles.

The talented forward made the difference in his team’s two outings at the ongoing World Cup so far and remains highly motivated to continue to impress on Brazilian soil. Despite amassing a vast array of trophies with Barcelona, Messi had been relatively starved of success on the international stage, winning just the FIFA U-20 World Cup Netherlands 2005 and Olympics gold at Beijing 2008.

Although Argentina is through to the Round of 16 with a group game in hand at the ongoing tournament, Messi would want to inspire the La Albiceleste to another victory against the Super Eagles today, not only to extend Argentina’s supremacy over Nigeria in football, but also to maintain his side’s 100 per cent result at the Brazil party.
