It was double tragedy for the family of the Aare Musulumi of Yorubaland, Alhaji Abdul-Azeez Arisekola-Alao, who died last month in London, as one of his wives, Jelilat, died in an auto crash on Monday along Oyo/Ilorin Expressway.
Arisekola, who died on June 18 and was buried at his Oluwo Kekere, Ibadan home on Friday, June 20, was, until his death, the deputy-president of the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs and a renowned philanthropist. He was 69 years old when he died.
His death came as a big surprise to his supporters and family members as he showed no sign of ill-health as at the time he travelled out of the country, although he was said to have gone on medical grounds.
His children were still in mourning mood, when the news of the death of Alhaja Jelilat filtered in on Monday.
Jelilat, according to a family source, was on her way to Ilorin when she was involved in an auto crash.
The deceased is a businesswoman and textile dealer, had since left Arisekola‘s house but had two children for the billionaire businessman and Islamic scholar.
Aged 63, Jelilat’s death in a motor accident was described as another blow to the children by a family source, who preferred not to be mentioned.
“She was no longer with Arisekola but she had two children for him, a boy and a girl. Her death is another blow to the children,” the source said.
The remains of Alhaja Jelilat were interred at her Apata residence, Ibadan yesterday according to Islamic rites.
