18 years-old-girl facing 15 years jail for having lesbian relationship with underage girl

A teenager was arrested after having a lesbian relationship with a younger classmate.

Kaitlyn Hunt, 18, was arrested for having a physical relationship with a 15-year-old girl.
The two have been dating for a while but as soon as Hunt turned 18, the underage girl’s parents called police and pressed charges.
Under Florida law, Hunt faces up to 15 years in prison and she might even have to register as a sex offender for having sex with a minor. The teenager was offered a plea deal, which would spare her jail time. If she pleads guilty to the crime, Hunt may spend two years in-house arrest and one year of probation, her family said.

“Does my daughter deserve to lose 15 years of her life or even two years of house arrest, because of a choice she made in high school? No way!” the girl’s mother, Kelley Hunt Smith, wrote on Facebook.
The family is trying to have the district attorney’s office drop the charges. So far, they had no luck, as by law, the teen committed a sex crime against the underage girl. The age of consent in Florida is 18-years-old.
“Why would her gender be an issue? If an 18-year-old boy had a relationship with a 15-year-old girl then he would face the same charges. Under the law, an adult cannot have sex with a minor regardless of their sexual orientation,” Nicole White, 26, of South Beach, Florida, told YourJewishNews.com after learning about the nature of the arrest.
After the arrest, Hunt was expelled from high school and agreed to have no contact with her victim. She was transferred to another high school. Hunt was arrested on two counts of felony lewd and lascivious battery of a minor, jail records show.
